Crowns and Bridges Littleton   Dentist Littleton

Dental crowns and bridges purpose is to provide a fixed replacement for a missing or damaged tooth. Crowns, or caps, are cemented over prepared surfaces of natural teeth.  They are also placed on dental implants to replace missing teeth.  Dental bridges can be used to fill gaps resulting from missing teeth. They are anchored by the natural teeth or crowns adjacent to the gap.  Crowns and bridges are securely bonded by an experienced an Littleton dentist such as Dr. Greg Herzberg.

Patients opting for crowns or bridges can restore the strength, function and cosmetic appearance of their teeth; usually in two appointments.  A dental crown can be applicable to your situation if you have a tooth that is broken or extensively decayed. A bridge can also be a good option if the missing tooth is surrounded by other teeth with healthy bone support.

During the first appointment, your teeth will be evaluated to determine the proper spacing and optimal esthetics.  The teeth will be prepared and an impression will be created from your bite and used to create a mold. The restorations are designed from porcelain materials that will be customized to match the natural shade of your teeth. You will also receive a temporary restoration while the dental lab is fabricating your crown or bridge.

During the second appointment, the temporary crown or bridge will be removed.  The natural teeth abutments will be cleaned. Then the final restoration will be evaluated and adjusted for ideal fit and appearance.  Then it will be bonded with a very strong adhesive.

After the final restorations have been placed on your teeth, they will need a little time for healing and adjustment.  Minor sensitivity to heat or cold may be experienced during this period, which is expected and can be managed.  Ibuprofen and warm salt water rinses can be used to reduce sensitivity or any soreness in the gums following the treatment.
